OUR MISSION
We at Chander Haat introduce ourselves as an artists' commune. Situated in the southern fringes of Sarsuna in Kolkata, India. Our focus is mainly on contemporary art, we have organized many art activities such as workshops, discussions, performances and exhibitions. We also support and encourage innovative and experimental ideas.
CHANDER HAAT RESIDENCY PROGRAM
We at Chander Haat being an artist commune understand that artist's need time and space for their creativity. Our Artist-in-Residence program provides opportunities to artists, academicians, curators, and people of all forms of creative arts a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. We provide a time of reflection, research, presentation and/or production. We also allow an individual and/or group to explore his or her practice in a different culture, by meeting like minded people, using new materials and experiencing life in a new environment.
WHAT DOES IT FOCUS ON? AND WHAT CAN ARTIST'S EXPECT?
Our residency emphasizes the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange thereby allowing immersion into another culture. At Chander Haat we provide a perfect environment for creative folk to be sequestered for a week to several months in order to devote time to their art. Because the purpose of the artist residency is to allow artists to create art.
